2019 was an amazing year for phones. We saw Huawei and Samsung release their first 5G handheld devices with the Mate 20X and the Note 10 Plus, Apple set a new standard for mobile photography with the iPhone 11 and OnePlus released the OnePlus 7 Pro proving that you don’t need an Apple or a Samsung logo to be a relevant flagship.
Looking forward to 2020, we’re expecting the trends that have been set last year to be expanded on and taken to further heights; 5G devices are about to become the new standard for all flagship devices, cameras are expected to continue getting bigger and better and we’re going to start seeing a lot more fordable phones.
2019 has barely left our sight from the rear view mirror and there are already lots of rumors circulating about phones expected to be released in 2020.
Here’s a list of the most anticipated phones to be released in 2020, their expected release date, what we know about them and what we think we know about them.
Samsung Galaxy S11 / S20
This one’s right around the corner, on February 11th Samsung are expected to announce the next generation of its flagship Galaxy devices. The original Galaxy was released at the beginning of the decade back in 2010. So it only makes sense for Samsung to kick off the 2020’s by launching the Galaxy S 20, S20 Plus & S20 Ultra.
A change in name isn’t the only thing in the wings from Samsung this year, rumors about the much anticipated Galaxy S20 point to a drastic remodeling of the camera system to include a main sensor with a whopping 108 MP resolution and 5x optical zoom.
We’re also expecting to see bigger sizes with a respective 6.4, 6.7 & 6.9 inches for the S20, S20 Plus and S20 Ultra with at least one of those devices being 5G ready.
Apple iPhone 12
Apple is expected to reveal big changes this year.
Even though we’re still a long way away from the official launch in September 2020, the rumor mill is already buzzing with talks of changes in display sizes, an iPhone 4 throwback metal frame design, reversible charging, 5G compatibility and maybe – finally – expandable storage.
Huawei is slated to launch its highly anticipated P40 line-up this year, with reports speculating they might arrive as early as March.
Multiple sources have all but confirmed that the P40 will boast an unprecedented 5 lens camera system with one of the lenses providing a 10x optical zoom, which is also unheard of in mobile photography.
Don’t get too hung up over just the camera though, it’s rumored that the P40 will also feature impressive changes in display. We might see Huawei unveil a curved QHD+ screen with 120Hz refresh rate.
In 2020, OnePlus are set to build on the success of last year’s OnePlus 7 series. We’re expecting three OnePlus 8 models this year: OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus Lite.
It has already been confirmed that the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will come equipped with a 120 Hz. display refresh rate, which is a considerable step up from its predecessors’ 90 Hz,
The Lite model will mark the first time OnePlus release a mid-range phone. It’s rumored to feature a punch hole front camera display and a 3 lens rear camera system, which – for a mid range phone – is very impressive.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung’s new, much anticipated, foldable smartphone is expected to be released in February during the unpacked event.
Aside from the vertical folding feature and the new ultra slim durable glass display, details are in very short supply. However, all the big players are expected to release a foldable device sooner or later, and it seems like Samsung are ready to cement themselves as pioneers in the foldable phone category early on.
2020 is gearing up to be a big year for mobile technology. Stay tuned for more details on the above phone releases and much more!
